Féile na Físe: Celebrating A Vision


Féile na FíseSeachtain na Gaeilge is celebrating the Irish language by coordinating an additional category of events in 2016 called Féile na Físe from 1 - 17 March 2016. The aim of the event is to commemorate and highlight the role of the Irish language and culture in the momentous events of 1916 as well as showcasing the vision the leaders of the Rising had for Ireland which was inspired by the Cultural Revival taking place at the time.

Féile na Físe in Schools
The Department of Education and Skills is organising Proclamation Day in educational institutes on March 15, 2016. The Irish flag will be raised and the Proclamation of the Republic read in schools around the country. As part of the day, schools will also celebrate Féile na Físe. Events will include drama (a special play by Alan Titley has been commissioned), singing (a special version of Oró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile), dancing, Gaelic games and much more.

Féile na Físe in the Community
Community groups are also welcome to celebrate Féile na Físe, either on the same date or another more suitable date for your group, in conjunction with local schools or independently. Féile na Físe events will be widely promoted as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge 2016.
