Lá na Teicneolaíochta celebrated today as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2024

TikTok held Irish language event today for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia

Today, 14 March 2024, Lá na Teicneolaíochta takes place as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, the largest Irish festival in the world.

Lá na Teicneolaíochta, previously Lá na Meán Sóisialta, has been running as an annual event since 2017 to celebrate and to use Irish online, with young people given the opportunity to see Irish as a living language outside the classroom. Hundreds of school students took part in online workshops as part of the celebration for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2024. Gaeltacht schools and schools from all over Ireland participated in radio and video workshops to celebrate the festival.

This year, TikTok took part in the celebration of Lá na Teicneolaíochta, with a special event held in TikTok offices in Dublin for #SnaG24.

Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, commented:

“The inspiration for Lá na Teicneolaíochta was to have an online celebration of the Irish language for Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia. Events such as the one at TikTok offices today show young people that Irish is a living language and that there are millions of opportunities to use Irish outside of the classroom.”

Diarmaid Ó hAinifigh, Múinteoir in Coláiste Éamonn Ríse said:

“There was a great energy in the room today, especially when the students started to work on their own videos. My students didn’t stop talking about the event on their way home and when they were back at school.”
