What are the different types of memberships with Conradh na Gaeilge?

Craobhacha Eagraíochta

 Organisational Branch

  • This is the traditional, voluntary branch that is and has always been at the very core of Conradh na Gaeilge.
  • The practical goal of each branch is to promote the Irish language in their local area.
  • It is easy to set up a branch. All you need is a small group of people to come together, with the shared desire to promote Irish, then set up a committee and register with Conradh na Gaeilge's Ard-Oifig.
  • Newsletters and information will be sent to members of the branch, and they will also be given a platform to share information about their events too.
  • The Organisational Branch will operate in accordance with the organisation's constitution in terms of governance

 Partnership Branch

  • A Partnership branch is an Irish language group with their own legal status that still wishes to be a part of Conradh na Gaeilge (for example a Gaeltacht cooperative, Irish language groups with their own company status, etc.)
  • These types of group will now be able to register as a Partnership branch and take part in the organisation, such as for example by submitting a motion to the Ard-Fheis (except Constitutional motions), electing people on to the business committee, attending organisational events, and adding the wishes of their community to Conradh na Gaeilge’s agenda, etc.
  • The Partnership branch will still follow their own governance responsibilities as a company or otherwise, not under Conradh na Gaeilge’s governance status of a trust.
  • Each member of a Partnership branch will have a vote at Conradh na Gaeilge’s Ard-Fheis every year.
  • Newsletters and information will be sent to named contacts of the branch, and they will also be given a platform to share information about their events too.

 Individual Member

Conradh na Gaeilge welcomes you to take up individual membership with us! Our membership system is ideal for those who are unable, for various reasons, to partake in branch work but who wish to be active in the development the Irish language.

As an individual member of the Conradh:

  • Each member will receive all information on the campaigns and events that are run by our offices and branches all over Ireland;

  • Each member has the opportunity to attend our Ard-Fheis every year to express his/her views and to partake in lively debates and in the organisation's work;

  • Each member has the opportunity to propose one person to be elected for the presidencey, for two spaces which will be allocated to individual members on our Coiste Gnó, and for one space for individual members on Seachtain na Gaeilge's Board of Directors.

  • As well as this, each member is entitled to propose one motion, motions of a constitutional nature excluded, at our Ard-Fheis.
