What is Ard-Fheis na nÓg?

  • - Fheis na nÓg is a unique event for young people, bringing together Gaeltacht teenagers and senior cycle students from Gaelcholáistí across the country in a different Gaeltacht region each year.
  • - Through a range of presentations, workshops, talks, and social events & classes, Ard-Fheis na nÓg provides the participants with the opportunity to discuss questions, themes, opportunities and challenges relevant to them as young Irish speakers.

Common questions:

  • Who is it for?
    This is an event for those in Transition Year or in Senior Cycle of Gaeltacht schools or Gaelcholáistí.

  • How many students can attend?
    Up to 6 students from each school can attend, but please write the number you believe will be interested in coming from the school and we will get back to you. 

  • Does a teacher have to come with them? 
    A teacher from the school will attend with students.

  • How much does the event cost?
    In 2025, the event cost €10 per student. There was no cost to teachers. Travel expenses are to be covered by the school.

  • Is food and accommodation included? 
    Yes, there will be accommodation and food provided.

  • What kind of events happen?

    Interactive events and workshops are held. Each school also has a presentation to prepare and deliver, on a theme that will be shared with them in advance.

    In 2025, the events took place in various locations around the Cois Fharraige area. These included:

    • Tour of the Ros na Rún set
    • Quiz
    • Writing workshop with Stiúideo Cuan
    • Language rights workshop
    • Céilí with live music from Clann Sonny
    • School presentations
    • Panel discussion on careers with Gaeilge

Over the years...

The first Ard Fheis na nÓg was held in Monaghan in 2019. With Students from Gaelcholáistí & Gaeltacht schools all across the country in attendance.

At the beginning of 2020, Ard-Fheis na nÓg grew to a 2 day overnight event in Ros Muc, Co. na Gaillimhe, where 80 students came together in February. The students enjoyed workshops, discussions and a trip to Teach an Phiarsaigh.
