Plé 16 Seminars

Seimineáir Plé 16Conradh na Gaeilge has organised a series of seminars in Ireland and overseas to commemorate the heritage of the Irish Language Revival movement. The seminars are intended to encourage a wider conversation about the role of our language in the events which resulted in the Easter Rising, as well as our future as an Irish-speaking community.

Events will take place in Dubin, Belfast, Derry, Ros Muc, Nenagh, New York, and Boston. Many of the events have been organised in cooperation with Oifig na Gaeilge in Trinity College Dublin, Glór na nGael, Oireachtas na Gaeilge and Glucksman Ireland House in New York. We are especially grateful for the assistance and advice given to us by Íte Ní Chionnaith, Aonghus Dwane, Hilary Sweeney, Brian Ó Conchubhair, Frances Mulraney, Liam Ó Maolaodha, and Nora Welby during the course of organising these seminars.

We hope that all the participants (speakers and attendees) will enjoy the events we have organised, and that they will provide food for thought for all of us: enriching our knowledge of the proud history of the movement for the revival of Irish and the Easter Rising, helping us better understand the position of the Irish language and the state of the nation today, and providing inspiration and encouragment to us as we prepare to meet the challenges which face us as a community.

Seimineár Dátheangach eagraithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge agus Oifig na Gaeilge, Coláiste na Tríonóide

Cad is brí leis an ráiteas sin in 2016?

Déanfaidh an Seimineár seo scrúdú ar an nasc idir an Ghaeilge agus ár bhféiniúlacht. An ann di go fóill sa 21ú Aois? Conas ar thuig glúin Éirí Amach na Cásca é? Conas gur féidir linn an Ghaeilge a neartú i ndomhan an lae inniu?

This seminar will examine the connection between the Irish language and our identity. Is it still relevant in the 21st Century? How was it understood by those who participated in the Easter Rising? How can we strengthen the Irish language in today’s world?

Symposium, Exhibition and Lecture organised by Glucksman Ireland House and Conradh na Gaeilge

Bíonn gaol láidir idir cearta teanga agus cúrsaí polaitíochta. De réir a chéile athraíodh tuairimí roinnt gaelgeoirí ag deireadh na naoú haoise déag ó oideachas amháin chuig oideachas mar pháirt de cheist i bhfad níos leithne: oideachas, náisiúnachas agus réabhlóid. Is é seo a bheidh á phlé ag an ócáid stairiúil seo i Nua-Eabhrac, nuair a sheolfaidh Conradh na Gaeilge ár dtaispeántas stairiúil “Athbheochan na Gaeilge agus Éirí Amach na Cásca” in Áras Glucksman na hÉireann in Ollscoil Nua Eabhrac.

Language rights involve agitation, agitation implies politics. The ideals and aspirations of late 19th Century Irish-language activists moved from education to politics in Ireland and from Ireland to Irish-America. Join us as we investigate relationships between Ireland and Irish-America through the eyes of the Irish Language movement.
This will be the topic of discussion at a special event in Glucksman Ireland House at New York University during which Conradh na Gaeilge will launch our historical exhibition “The Revival of the Irish Language and the Easter Rising.”

Déanfaidh an seimineár seo ceiliúradh agus comóradh ar na hiliomaid ban a bhí gníomhach sna gluaiseachtaí cultúrtha agus sóisialta a d’athraigh sochaí na hÉireann as cuimse ag tús na 20ú haoise. Beidh béim faoi leith ar an gcaidreamh idir gluaiseacht na Gaeilge agus gluaiseacht na mBan. An raibh Conradh na Gaeilge agus gluaiseacht na Gaeilge níos forásaí ná grúpaí eile? Ar thug gníomhaíocht i ngluaiseacht na Gaeilge breis misnigh do na mná a bhí ag teacht chun cinn mar ghníomhaithe i ngrúpaí eile?

This seminar will celebrate and commemorate the large numbers of women who were active in the cultural and social movements which changed Irish society so much in the early 20th Century. There will be a particular emphasis on the relationship between the Irish Language movement and the women’s rights movement. Were Conradh na Gaeilge and the Irish language movement more progressive than other groups? Did participation in the Irish Language movement give more courage to those women who were coming to the fore as activists in other movements?
