Conradh na Gaeilge welcomes widespread support for stand-alone Irish Language Act

Acht Anois! Conradh na Gaeilge ag an Lá Dearg 2017Dr Niall Comer, President of Conradh na Gaeilge, said:

"There is widespread, cross-party, local and international support for a stand-alone Irish language Act. At present, five parties (Alliance, Green Party, SDLP, Sinn Féin, PBP) all agree that any legislation regarding the Irish language must be free-standing. Alongside the support from the Irish Government, and the United Nations and the Council of Europe, the support for a stand-alone Irish language Act has never been greater. This is a result of the phenomenal grass-roots campaign we have witnessed of late. Conradh na Gaeilge welcomes this widespread support but reiterates that now is the time for action and for the practical fulfilment and implementation of a rights-based Irish-language Act that was promised and agreed upon over ten years ago."
