125,000 km travelled around the world by online conversation as Gaeilge at #Comhrá23

58 groups brought Comhrá around the world over 74 continious hours, creating conversations in Irish across 3 continents among friends and the international Irish-language community.

#Comhrá23 came to a close this year at 4:00pm Irish-time, an event of non-stop conversation in Irish for three days and nights around the world. Comhrá aims to promote the Irish language in Ireland and abroad by giving people an opportunity to speak Irish among friends and the wider Irish-language community online.

After covering 125,000 km over 74 hours and with 58 groups taking part across 3 continents, the non-stop Comhrá finished in Canada with participants from Craobh Thorontó of Conradh na Gaeilge.

Speaking on the event, Brónagh Fusco, Comhrá ‘23 Coordinator said:

“We had great success achieving the aim of this year’s campaign to spark conversations as Gaeilge in Ireland and worldwide with Comhrá '23. Friendships were created, connections were made between groups and the public was given an opportunity to use the Irish language in a unique and creative way.”

Pa Sheehan from Craobh Toronto of Conradh na Gaeilge, commented:

“Craobh Toronto was delighted to bring Comhrá '23 to an end here in Canada. We have taken part in the campaign over the last few years and we are happy to help promote opportunities to connect with Gaels around the world and to promote Irish in Toronto. We'd like to congratulate everyone who took part in Comhrá this year and helped to convey the global importance of Irish, sharing love for our language with the wider community.”

Carla Ní Raghallaigh, Secretary of Cumann Gaelach DCU, said:

“We were thrilled here in Cumann Gaelach DCU to be taking part in Comhrá again this year. As we've made a return to events this academic year, #Comhrá23 has given us a great opportunity to converse with new people in our native language. It was a privilege to join other college societies in a group effort to continue a non-stop conversation, not only in Ireland but around the world!”

Comhrá is an annual event organised with funding from Foras na Gaeilge.
