First ever Stormont Committee session in Irish as Conradh na Gaeilge appear before the Committee for Communities

Conradh na Gaeilge has appeared before the Committee for Communities to deliver evidence on the need for an Irish language strategy and an update on the current crisis in Irish language funding. The meeting took place on Thursday 7th March 2024 at Stormont. This was the very first time an organisation or witness has conducted their entire committee evidence session entirely through Irish since that simultaneous interpretation provision was introduced in 2021, following NDNA in 2020.

The Conradh na Gaeilge session can be viewed below, including the Q&A session with Committee members:

This was the first time simultaneous interpretation had been used in a committee meeting, and that recording can be viewed in full below:

Conradh na Gaeilge was represented by Cuisle Nic Liam, Pádraig Ó Tiarnaigh and Conchúr Ó Muadaigh.
