Time’s running out to register for the Irish-language competition run by Conradh na Gaeilge
Hundreds of second- and third-level students will be competing for the top spot in this year’s #Dúshlán competition, with the opportunity for each member of the winning team to earn themselves an iPad mini. The #Dúshlán 2017 challenge will run over a 50 hour period from 2.00pm on Tuesday, 31 January until 4.00pm, Thursday, 2 February 2017. Second- and third-level students have only until this Friday (27 January 2017) to register their team of three for the national competition at www.cnag.ie/dushlan.
Conradh na Gaeilge organises #Dúshlán every year to encourage young people to campaign for the Irish language in a fun way, with the aim of encouraging them to speak Irish and promote it locally.
The #Dúshlán challenges for the Irish language are be divided into different categories – from social media to state services – and the teams will be expected to carry out 50 tasks over a period of 50 hours, earning points as they complete each task.
Narrell Ní Bhroin, an Irish Teacher in Coláiste Pobail Osraí says:
“I would encourage every school to participate in this competition - 50 mad hours, all for the Irish language! The competition is fantastic and it creates a great buzz all over the school. Each student accomplishes a great deal in participating in #Dúshlán.”
Laoise Níc Chonchoille, a student from Coláiste Pobail Osraí’s #Dúshlán 2016 winning team says:
“#Dúshlán’s a bit of craic, I really enjoyed the madness and the fun of it! We were under pressure running all about the place, but it was fantastic!”
Maria Schäler, Third Level Coordinator with Conradh na Gaeilge, Leas-Uachtarán don Ghaeilge with the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), and Coordinator of #Dúshlán 2017 says:
“I took part in #Dúshlan when I was in university and I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun campaigning for anything! That’s why #Dúshlán is so important - it encourages young people, not only to speak Irish, but to promote it in a very real and meaningful way.
“Hundreds of people got involved in #Dúshlán last year, and we’re hoping to see those numbers rise again this year.”
