Raidió Rí-Rá Hosts Open AGM

Ireland's biggest and best Irish-language chart-station is asking listeners for their ideas for the future of Raidió Rí-Rá at their open AGM in Blooms Hotel, Templebar, Dublin 2 from 8 - 9.30pm this Friday, 16 October 2009.

Traic Ó Braonáin, Chair of Raidió Rí-Rá says: "Over a million and a half people could tune in to Raidió Rí-Rá when we went live on FM in cities across Ireland throughout March 2009, and thousands upon thousands of people listen in online at www.rrr.ie on a regular basis.

"Raidió Rí-Rá is already looking to the medium of digital television and we are currently developing applications for both the iPhone and Nokia phones so that people can listen to our Irish-language chart-station whenever they want, but we also want to get our listeners' input and ideas about how to develop Rí-Rá further and look to the long-term future of the station too."

Raidió Rí-Rá is the first all-Irish chart-station for young people in Ireland and this year's temporary broadcast was the first step towards establishing a full-time, all-Irish youth radio station on the national FM system, according to Ó Braonáin.

Raidió Rí-Rá has come on leaps and bounds since first broadcasting on-line under the working name Raidió X in March 2008, owing to the time and dedication volunteered by so many people, as well as the support of Conradh na Gaeilge, sponsorship from Samsung and funding from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs through Ciste na Gaeilge from the National Lottery.

Julian de Spáinn, Co-Secretary of Raidió Rí-Rá says: "Raidió Rí-Rá has achieved an enormous amount to date, but we need more input and more effective structures in place to get more people working on-air and fundraising for the station. Everyone will get the chance to give us their views on how best to go about doing this at Rí-Rá's AGM in Blooms Hotel this Friday."

The brainstorming session is open to anyone interested in Raidió Rí-Rá and has been organised as part of Conradh na Gaeilge's training weekend for third-level students in conjunction with Glór na nGael and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), due to the amount of interest young college students have shown in the project from the start. There will be refreshments provided for attendees.
