Lá na Teicneolaíochta takes place today as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia

700 students from 23 schools take part in the online celebration

Schools across the island are taking part in Lá na Teicneolaíochta 2023 today, with workshops in radio, video, coding and podcasts taking place.

Conchubhair Mac Lochlainn, Cathaoirleach of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, commented:

"We are delighted that 23 schools from all over the island are taking part in Lá na Teicneolaíochta 2023 as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia. Technology is of great value today and it is fantastic that we can show students the possibilities of using Irish and technology together."

Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia is the largest Irish language festival in the world. The extra long ‘seachtain’ will run from March 1-17 and the public are invited to participate in the festival by attending Irish-language events and using their Irish in any way they can.

Speaking today, Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia, said:

"In 2017 we nominated a special day during Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia to celebrate technology. Since then, we've gone from an event where a few schools could attend to a celebration with hundreds of students online. We hope that the workshops will encourage young people to use technology through Irish."

As part of the day, interactive workshops will be organised with the schools. Workshops as part of Lá na Teicneolaíochta will help students learn more about radio, video and coding. Students from Gaeltacht schools, Gaelscoileanna, schools from the north and south will be part of the hundreds of students who will participate on the day.
