#LNMS20: Lá na Meán Sóisialta celebrating the Irish language online Take Part! Use the Irish language online today!

11 March 2020

Lá na Meán Sóisialta is being held today (Thursday, 11 March 2020) as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2020. As part of Lá na Meán Sóisialta an official event was held in the Mansion House by Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia today. The aim of Lá na Meán Sóisialta is to promote and increase the use and visibility of the Irish language online and to encourage people to use their own social media accounts as Gaeilge.

Tom Brabazon, Lord Mayor of Dublin, said:
"We are delighted to host Lá na Meán Sóisialta in The Mansion House. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia is a brilliant way to bring Irish more into our daily lives and it gives everyone a chance to use their cúpla focal. Lá na Meán Sóisialta shows that the language, especially in the last decade, has come along way, both on and offline, and has kept up with our ever changing world. The Irish language community is stronger than ever and I've no doubt we'll see the language going from strength to strength over the next 10 years and beyond."

Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Manager of Seachtain na Gaeilge said:
“Today on Lá na Meán Sóisialta, we are celebrating how much Irish has grown in popularity over the last few years. Irish is now among the top 150 languages used online. The people who have translated the social sites to Gaeilge deserve huge credit for this. We’re putting an emphasis on using the Irish language online and using the different platforms as Gaeilge as much as you can. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #LNMS20 too.”

You can take part in Lá na Meán Sóisialta by posting using the Irish language on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat and using the hashtag # LNMS20. Don’t forget you can use your own account as Gaeilge too. All events and program information are available at www.snag.ie.
