Seachtain na Gaeilge launched at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann

An extensive program of events was launched along with the international Caint & Comhrá campaign in Drogheda

A program of Irish language events which will take place this week as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann was launched at an event organized by Coiste Gaeilge na Fleidhe. Drogheda is hosting the cultural festival this year and the town expects thousands of visitors. Irish language events will include lots of conversation circles with support from Caint & Comhá.

Caint & Comhrá is an international campaign for conversation circles and groups around the world. Conradh na Gaeilge provides ongoing support to the groups through support packages which are sent out to groups registered on PEIG.ie. Information about the various groups is shared on the website and they are publicised within the website's daily newsletter.

Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Seachtain na Gaeilge & Awareness Campaigns Manager said: “Coiste Gaeilge na Fleidhe deserve great praise for organising such an extensive program of Irish language events. We are very grateful to them for the wonderful event they organised with Seachtain na Gaeilge at the Fleadh along with the launch of Caint & Comhrá. It is well worth attending one of the great events if you are in Drogheda during the week. ”

Niall Comer, President of Conradh na Gaeilge, said: “The aim of Caint & Comhrá is to give people who wish to use their Irish an opportunity to socialize through a conversation circle. Conradh na Gaeilge is supporting this through the Caint & Comhrá project - a network where people can come together and use their Irish. ”

It is very easy to get involved with Caint & Comhrá - all you need is a small group that meets on a regular basis in a place like a local café, workplace, or even a football pitch. When you have set a time and place for the group, simply register the details on www.PEIG.ie. When you have registered Conradh na Gaeilge will send out a support pack which will be a practical tool to add to the conversation among the group.
