€1,000 awarded to winning schools in each province as part of Bliain na Gaeilge

Schools across the country have received awards for taking part in the Gaelfhíseán competition which was run as part of Bliain na Gaeilge.  The video competition attracted many high-quality entries from schools across th country, and a winner was selected in each county.

Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Awareness Campaigns Manager said; "the Gaelfhíseán contest was highly competetive and the standard of entries was excellent.  It is clear that students really enjoyed taking part in the competition and the teachers all deserve recognition of the effort they put in to the competition.  More than 10,000 people have taken part in Bliain na Gaeilge competitions since the beginning of the year, which is remarkable.”

Among the winning schools was Meánscoil an Chroí Naofa in Clonakilty, Cork. Orlaith Nic Ghearailt, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Awareness Campaigns Manager with Conradh na Gaeilge, awarded a cheque to the school, alongside Traolach Ó Donnabháin of the local branch of Conradh na Gaeilge, Chraobh Chloch na Coillte, and the Mayor of Clonakilty, John Loughnane.

Students of Meánscoil Chroí Naofa were delighted to receive the award.  Leona Meade, an Irish teacher at the school said: "We are so proud of the girls for winning the county prize for their Gaelfhíseán as part of Bliain na Gaeilge.  Irish is central to our learning experience here at the school, and we really enjoyed taking part in this competition.”
