New Directory of Irish Language Centres launched in Ráth Chairn

Conradh na Gaeilge seek to develop new conversation campaign and register over 100 new groups as part of ‘Caint & Comhrá’

The new network of Irish-language Centres has been launched to help ensure stronger links and support between Irish-language groups and communities through Ireland. The new network handbook was launched at an event organised with Comharchumann Ráth Chairn on Friday (26th January). There are over 25 Irish-language hubs and centres now registered with the directory and that resource along with additional information is now available as a handbook and can be accessed at PEIG.ie/lárionaid. Conradh na Gaeilge also launched a new campaign, Caint & Comhrá, at the event on Friday.

Máirín Sarikaya, Manager, Comharchumann Ráth Chairn, said:

Comharchumann Ráth Chairn is delighted that Conradh na Gaeilge launched the new Network of Irish-language Centres in the Bradán Feasa in Ráth Chairn on Friday. This directory is hugely important for areas like Ráth Chairn and they succeed in informing us as communities and as Irish language learners of the resources that are available through Irish in the various centres and hubs such as Áras Pobail Ráth Chairn.

Dáire Ó Faogáin, Multi-media & Awareness Executive with Conradh na Gaeilge, said:

This new Network aims to publicise and create greater awareness of the centres themselves and to help encourage greater cooperation between different groups and communities under one brand. It’s great to be able to work with all of these fantastic groups and to support their local initiatives and projects. It also affords us the opportunity to support each-other across Ireland and to ensure Irish-language services are made available locally especially for those who previously may not have been aware of such local provision.

'Caint & Comhrá' is the new face of the ‘Is Leor Beirt’ campaign and Conradh na Gaeilge is hoping to register over 100 new groups to take part and to sign up to use their Irish more often.

Seán Ó Murchadha, Campaign Awareness Executive, added:

Caint & Comhrá seeks to provide new opportunities for people to use their Irish in social settings through informal conversation circles. Conradh na Gaeilge continues to support this initiative and to promote networks and opportunities for people to come together and feel comfortable to speak Irish with each other as often as possible.

It is very easy to take part in the Caint & Comhrá campaign – all you need is a small group of people who can regularly meet together in places such as cafes, in the work place, at your local sports club etc. When you have your details agreed you can register them at www.PEIG.ie so that local people can take part. Conradh na Gaeilge will then send you a support pack containing plenty of useful resources to get you started.
