Snapchat’s Community Geofilters now available in Irish in every county, check out all 32 designs here
Irish-language Community Geofilters appeared on Snapchat for the first time this week. Designed by Irish Snapchatters from around the world and submitted by Conradh na Gaeilge, we are delighted to announce that Community Geofilters in Irish are now available in all 32 counties.
Anyone can submit a Community Geofilter by heading to the geofilter website and clicking ‘Community’. Once there, follow the instructions and guidelines, choose the geographic area for the filter to be available in, and upload your design. If your geofilter is approved by Snapchat, Snapchatters nearby will be able to use it to express where they are. Millions of geofilters have been created for cities, towns, landmarks and other places around the world since they first appeared on Snapchat three years ago.
Aodhán Ó Deá, Director of Development with Conradh na Gaeilge says:
“What many people don't know about Snapchat is that a lot of the geofilters you can use in the app are created by the community of Snapchatters who design geofilters for places that are meaningful to them. This means that Irish-speakers everywhere can submit their designs as Gaeilge!
“We received some incredible submissions, created by some amazing designers from all over the country and even internationally. It was fantastic to see the huge effort that Irish Snapchatters put into creating all of these community geo-filters in Irish, and the incredible response that these designs got this week.”

Snapchat also have On Demand Geofilters that can be purchased on their website. Thousands of Snapchatters create these designs for their special occasions, including engagements and weddings, parties, holidays, and graduations. These are only available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and UAE at present however.
