Aitheantas (2010)

Gaelscoil Ráth Tó (September 2010)Aitheantas means recognition in Irish and four national Irish-language organisations - Comhluadar, Conradh na Gaeilge, Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge and Glór na nGael - came together in 2010 under the joint umbrella-campaign entitled Aitheantas to lobby for the recognition of Irish-medium schools, and in particular to support the parents that founded Gaelscoil Ráth Tó in Ratoath, Co. Meath when the all-Irish primary school was refused recognition in 2010.

Gaelscoil Ráth Tó opened with 9 pupils attending the school on 30 August 2010, without official recognition from the Department of Education and Skills. The founding committee took the courageous decision to go ahead with the school because they believed that parents from Ratoath should have the choice to have their children educated through the medium of Irish.

Following continuous discussions with the Department of Education and Skills in the south, Gaelscoil Ráth Tó was reorganised and full recognition was given to a new all-Irish primary school for the area called Gaelscoil na Mí. Gaelscoil na Mí is a Gaelscoil for the Ashbourne, Ratoath and surrounding areas. Gaelscoil na Mí is an Irish-medium school with a multi-denominational ethos under the patronage of Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge. Gaelscoil na Mí opened in Donaghmore GAA Clubhouse, Ashbourne, Co. Meath on Thursday, 01 September 2011 - the first Irish-medium primary school to open with recognition from the Department of Education and Skills in three years.

Aitheantas continues to campaign for the national demand for all-Irish education by urging the Departments of Education to include the provision of Irish-medium education in the criteria used when selecting areas for new schools.
