Mol an Óige: Conradh na Gaeilge to host their first ever Ard-Fheis na nÓg

Posted in General.

For the first time ever, Conradh na Gaeilge will host Ard-Fheis na nÓg, for second level students, on the 14 February 2019 in The Garage Theatre, Monaghan.  Ard-Fheis na nÓg will give young people from schools in Ulster and Leinster the chance to debate social and national issues that are important to them, and to have their opinions heard at Ard-Fheis Chonradh na Gaeilge, which will be held from the 22-23 February in The 4 Seasons Hotel, Monaghan.

Senior students will be welcomed to participate in this pilot scheme from Irish medium schools Coláiste Feirste, Gaelcholáiste Oirialla, Coláiste Lú, and Scoil Iosaef, An Domhnach Mór. They will receive a insight into how Ard-Fheis Chonradh na Gaeilge is run, and the democratic structure of the organisation, which elects and guides Conradh na Gaeilge's plan of action each year.

Adhering to the theme of the Ard Fheis, ‘Language without Limits’, motions will be discussed relating to the future of the Irish language in the north and in the south, the implications that Brexit may have, and much more.

President of Conradh na Gaeilge, Dr. Niall Comer said; “It is brilliant that Ard-Fheis na nÓg is to be held for the first time this year.  It gives young Irish speakers a chance to come together with Conradh na Gaeilge to discuss and debate important aspects of their lives.  These are the people who will be leaders in the Irish language movement, and in Irish life, in the years to come and it is important that we give them a platform and the opportunity to develop and discuss their opinions.  This is a pilot scheme and we hope to build on it in the years to come.”

Ard-Fheis na nÓg will be held 10am - 2pm Thursday, 14 February 2019, in The Garage Theatre, Monaghan.
